Tennant is not the first to make the salty beer with ocean water. Er Boqueron, a beer made with Mediterranean Sea water, hit the market a few years ago. Aloha Beer Co. created a limited-release brew with water from a spot in Waimanalo, Hawaii.

Using Virginia ocean water is a way of tapping into the buy-local, sustainable food trend. Infusing a gose with oysters is even more “atypical;” with the push to have local, distinctive beers, O’Keefe said, the concept makes sense.”
