Pittsburgh-Based Company Turns Unwanted Bread Into Beer, Battles Food Waste

“According to Scott Smith of the East End Brewing Company, this is their “dip in the pool” to see if interest for such product exists. If so, Loaf beer could expand to include more bakeries and become more than a one-time thing.

The sustainable approach didn’t stop with turning wasted bread into beer, though. Because brewing requires lots of water and electricity, the creators decided to solve this issue by sending their grains to dairy and hog farmers who recapture the water and recycle the packaging materials.”
